The Overhead Camera Rig is finished and we are one step closer to doing livestreams! This build took about 6 hours and cost $32 to make. I started out by researching DIY overhead camera rig designs, and seeing how they were built. I came across one design that I liked, but after building it, I realized that it wasn’t going to work for the set up I wanted.
So it was back to the drawing board, literally. I started sketching out my own rig designs until I came up with the one you see now. I designed the rig to be adjustable and work well with the specific zoom features of the camcorder. I’m very happy with how it turned out, especially since I’ve never worked with pvc pipe before.
At this point, I need to invest in a couple of clip on lamps, and an extension cable for the camcorder. Time to start hunting for some deals!
The next update will be on Tuesday, March 6th.
Till next time,
Ya know, T, not bad.
I gotta commend you for your ingenuity in rigging this up.
As I recall, when Lucas was filming the first SW (episode 4) that he’d to’ve set up his own jury-rigged assembly to cover some shots & footage that’d not been considered back in the 70’s when he did that filming.
So, all in all, nice get-up.
Well golly! 😀
I’ll gladly take any comparison to Lucas! Thank you!
Hopefully this hunk of pipe works half as well as it looks.
And just a side note, I’m planning to build a saber for my next cosplay, Rey.
Long live the force!!!!
I can’t wait!
The Force be with you as well!
BTW there was a documentary back in the early 80s that covered the new types of setups Lucas & them were doing. I think it’s still available in Hulu. If you buy the complete set of the entire SW series, the should, if not already have, the innovations for filming SW 4 in the late 70s. Lucas Arts, et al, got their whole studio set up because of this. I personally thought it’s all still so cool.
But….that’s just me.
That’s one sick rig set up! Luv da comic too. Sleeping on rocks… now I’m thinking of the Flinstones…
Oh man, I haven’t seen the Flinstones in a long time. Good memories!
I’m glad you like the comic, and thanks for reading 🙂
